Nominated by her friends at church, Vicki brings a certain grace to everything she does–whether she's serving coffee to her congregation or showing up (always showing up) for her children and grandchildren. Yes, she's a grandmother who bikes to work, and if that doesn't tell you everything you need to know about her spirit, keep reading. There's a calming presence about Vicki that makes you feel like you've known her forever. The kind of person who makes every space she enters a little bit warmer…that’s probably why by the end of their interview, host Renee was already making lunch plans with her.
Her faith is central to who she is–not as fixed dogma, but as an expression of her radically compassionate nature. Her partner can be someone from a cultural background completely foreign from her own–in fact, she would love to learn about it…her partner can be goofy, or he could be quiet, or perhaps have no game whatsoever. But her partner must be respectful, and he absolutely must be a man of faith. Because to Vicki, at the root of a loving relationship is first and foremost a relationship with God.
When she's not attending the symphony or exploring different cultures through their cuisines, you might find Vicki on a tennis court or cycling through the various Forest Preserves in and around Chicago. But more likely, you'll find her wherever her family needs her to be, creating community and connection wherever she goes.
